Went to the Seattle Public Library today-- intense craziness!! It reminded of me of Esmé Squalor and the "IN" Auction. This was a very "IN" library.
The escalators are neon green:

And various abstract art installations are in the wall as you go up. There is a section of stairs and hallways are are entirely red and plastic-looking for no apparent reason, and the lights are even red.

The chairs are red and black geometric shapes that look uncomfortable...and kind of are, even though they are made of semi-squishy foam. The entire building is made up of large diamond-shaped panes of glass and you can look down on the city below you, the stairs are orange and yellow, respectively. The floors are made of recycled wood and in the children's section, bamboo. I have never been in a library like it. It was strange, though...as I remarked to my USEM mentor, "I feel like there aren't many books in it," which I am sure there are, but the ratio of book space to just...space seemed maybe out of wack. I think I prefer libraries that have lots and lots of books, so many books that there is just barely room to navigate through them, with big, poofy, comfy chairs, and preferably worn stairs with wooden railings and fireplaces and odd nooks and crannies that are perfect for reading. I am glad I had the opportunity to go, though; it is an interesting place. It is a very large library, 10 floors I think, and I don't think I saw all of it. We kind of got lost.
I also got a chai-nog for the first time this season, which was undoubtedly wonderful-- especially being in Seattle and especially going to a Starbucks in the city in the cold. I loveses it.
I love the Christmas "season" in cities...and just in general. The hustle and bustle, the anticipation, the holiday packaging of everything from the milk carton in the grocery store to shopping bags to holiday Jones Soda. I guess it is a bit commercial, but oh well. I saw a maintenance man putting blue Christmas lights in the trees that border the street, and that made me happy.
The city was grey today, and windy, and busy. Currently I am listening to the Amelie soundtrack which for some reason, fits today just perfectly.
That is all. Love,
me.

I am at this time very inclined to agree. The christmas season is my favorite because of the way it feels. Last night, after work, I went to Daz Bog to study and a couple came in all bundled up holding hands. It was charming in a very traditional way. They made me smile a whole bunch. It reminds me of old christmas movies like Miracle on 34th Street, It's a Wonderful Life, and White Christmas. =)
Hope you're doing extra well, Vaness.
